Training and background
Dr. Gisi began her medical career while completing a post-graduate program at the University of California, Davis. On finishing it she was selected to attend medical school at the University of Utah. After her first year she was accepted to transfer to the University of Oklahoma College of Medicine, so that she could be near her husband, and she graduated there in 1999.
She was then accepted for family practice residency training at Riverside County Regional Medical Center in Moreno Valley, California, completing her residency in 2002. She has been licensed to practice medicine in the State of California since 2001.
Coming to Temecula
On completing her residency in 2002, Dr. Gisi was invited to join a medical group in Temecula. After two years there she decided she wanted to practice differently — with more time per patient and fewer constraints on how that time was spent — and opened her own solo private practice, which she has run ever since.
That decision still shapes the practice today. Appointment slots are not double-booked, and the doctor who sees you is the doctor who knows your history.
Her approach to medicine
Dr. Gisi practices integrative and functional medicine alongside conventional family practice, which means looking for the cause of a problem rather than managing the symptom. Her work includes bioidentical hormone therapy, nutrition and herbal therapy, and she takes lifestyle, diet and family history as seriously as lab results.
She believes in using nutritional supplements as a first-line therapy where that is the right choice, while recognizing that medication treats many conditions effectively and should be used when it is warranted. She is not dogmatic in either direction — the question is always what will actually help this patient.
Women's health
Women's health is Dr. Gisi's particular area of focus, covering preventive care and screening, family planning and contraception, hormone changes through midlife and beyond, and the conditions that are routinely missed or misattributed in women — thyroid problems, hormone imbalance and nutritional deficiency among them.
She is direct about what she does not know and thorough about ruling things out before settling on a diagnosis.
